象形字中的“马”（ ）能看到马的特征：身躯跃起、头向上、尾向下，中间还有鬃毛。后来马的特征渐渐消失了，简化成现今的“马”字。
（  ）is a pictographic character which depicts a horse with its head upwards, tail downwards and back to the right; it even depicts the hair. But as the character developed it lost these original pictographic features.
