Chinese for Diplomats is specially designed for foreign diplomats who are working or will be working in their embassies or consulates stationed in China. They will learn Mandarin Chinese focusing on everyday conversation, working language for diplomatic purposes, reading and writing skills for diplomatic correspondence, and Chinese culture and etiquette. This course aims to help diplomatic agents improve their Chinese fluency in a short time, so that they can do a better job when working with Chinese colleagues and relevant organizations. There are 4 levels of 80 lessons in total in Chinese for Diplomats.
Level 1:
- Twenty lessons in total. This level is ideal if you have no prior knowledge of Chinese, but want a quick start in the language. Within this level, we introduce the most commonly used characters, and grammar points, sentence structures and everyday communication activities.
- Completion of this level enables you to acquire basic skills in reading, listening, speaking and writing, and communicate simply with native Chinese speakers. This includes as making a self-introduction, making a toast at a banquet, answering an incoming call, and expressing gratitude.
Level 2:
- Twenty lessons in all. This level is ideal if you know some basic expressions and sentence structures, and can recognize and read around 800 Chinese characters.
- We'll introduce the 1500 most commonly used words or characters required in the Chinese syllabus and special sentence patterns for daily communication activities.
- Completion of this level enables you to acquire good skills in reading, listening, speaking and to writing, and communicate freely with native Chinese speakers. This includes traveling around China independently, ordering food in a Chinese restaurant, writing short letters or sending e-mail and e-cards in Chinese and watching Chinese TV programs.
Level 3:
- Twenty lessons in all. This level is ideal for those who have finished learning the basic grammar and have mastered at least 1500 common Chinese characters or phrases.
- Within this level, you'll learn about 2000 new words and expressions, and conduct diplomatic activities such as making a speech at a certain ceremony, toasting, writing diplomatic documents, collecting information from Chinese newspapers and so on.
- Completion of this level indicates that your Chinese proficiency comes to the intermediate level, and you will be able to communicate fluently in diplomatic activities with Chinese colleagues.
Level 4:
- Twenty lessons in all. This level is ideal for the intermediate-level learners who have mastered at least 2500 common Chinese characters or phrases and had good command of listening and speaking.
- Within this level, you'll learn about 2500 additional phrases and expressions, and practice conversation, reading and writing relating to diplomatic activities such as announcements, proclamations, making agreements and correspondence.
- Completion of this level indicates that your Chinese proficiency has reached Upper-Intermediate Level.
